Charity at the Heart of Starelics

Buying on Starelics means combining passion with impact. We have chosen to donate one third of the proceeds from every object sold to a partner charity. To ensure a tangible and measurable impact, we focus our efforts on one organization at a time, over a six-month period. 

Health, education, environment : three essential causes, three pillars on which we build our commitment. Because an object can become far more than just a souvenir: it can be a meaningful and generous gesture.

The Tara Ocean Foundation in a nutshell

Since 2003, the schooner Tara has been sailing across the globe to study the Ocean, a world still little known to humankind. Onboard, sailors, scientists, journalists, and even a few artists take turns, all united by their passion for what is the planet’s greatest ecosystem, to the point that one might say a bit of seawater runs through their veins. 

From this shared passion, bringing together men and women of every nationality, an ever-evolving humanist project was born, year after year, imagined by Étienne Bourgois, director of Agnès b., together with Agnès Troublé, known as Agnès b.

Protecting the Ocean, Defending Life

From the Arctic to the Antarctic, across the coral reefs of Southeast Asia, the European coastline, and the high seas, the Ocean is the largest living space on the planet. The vessels of the Tara Ocean Foundation study this marine life, made up predominantly of microscopic plankton species, with a focus on their crucial role in the climate system and in sustaining life both at sea and on land. 

Toxic chemical pollution, rising temperatures, the decline of ecosystems… Faced with mounting pressures on Life itself, protecting the Ocean and all living beings has never been more urgent. 

Exploring the Ocean to Better Understand It

Exploration lies at the heart of the Foundation’s mission, born from its collaboration with leading international scientific laboratories. Thanks to the commitment of a collective of scientists, sailors, and institutional and financial partners, the schooner Tara sails across the world’s Ocean to understand it more deeply and to protect it more effectively.

Sharing Knowledge to Protect Life

To carry science beyond the walls of laboratories, the Tara Ocean Foundation strives to make scientific discoveries accessible. Raising awareness, informing, and mobilizing are all key levers to advance the protection of the Ocean. Through the eyes of onboard artists, a dedicated podcast, and a series of conferences, the Foundation sheds light on the vital issues connected to the Ocean.

Engaging Policymakers : Making Ocean Protection a Shared Responsibility

The Tara Ocean Foundation has always carried a political message rooted in science. Its founders envisioned that the research conducted onboard would inform political debate and decision-making, placing science at the very heart of major societal challenges. 

The Foundation’s advocacy seeks to strengthen dialogue between fundamental, human, and social sciences, civil society, and policymakers while translating and transmitting knowledge on issues, regulations, and management tools, to guide decisions in favor of protecting and sustainably managing the Ocean. 

Our Support for the Tara Ocean Foundation

For six months, Starelics donates one third of the proceeds from each sale to the Tara Ocean Foundation and more specifically to its Tara Polar Station project, a next-generation drifting polar station designed to conduct scientific missions in the Arctic until 2046. A true floating laboratory, it will enable the study of climate, marine biodiversity, and ice melt at the heart of one of the planet’s most fragile ecosystems. A Laboratory at the Heart of the Arctic

Designed as a true polar laboratory drifting with the rhythm of the ice, Tara Polar Station will allow scientists to spend several months in full immersion at the very heart of the Arctic. This unprecedented long-term presence will provide deeper insight into the impacts of climate change on marine biodiversity and the cryosphere. Self-sufficient in energy and engineered to withstand extreme conditions, this futuristic station will pave the way for new research methods, closer than ever to some of the planet’s most threatened ecosystems.
